Linda walked into the room with a heart full of love, unaware she was walking into a trap.
They mocked her for being barren, but minutes later, the laughter would turn into a silence so cold it chilled the bone.
“Why you pretended to pity her?” Julia scoffed loudly. The other pregnant women burst into laughter.
A woman that was sleeping around in university suddenly wants sympathy because she cannot have a child.
Linda froze. Didn’t she know she would become a mother one day? After all the abortions she did.
God is not mocked. The laughter continued. Linda felt her throat tighten. Her eyes burned with tears, but she refused to let them fall.
Not there. Not in front of everybody. She slowly turned towards the women she had called friends for years.

You know the funny thing, Linda said quietly. I genuinely came here happy for all of you.
Julia rolled her eyes. Please spare us emotional speech. Everyone knows the life you lived, Linda.
The humiliation was a physical weight crushing the air out of her lungs. Minutes later, something sharp suddenly twisted violently inside her stomach.
The pain was sudden, brutal. It felt like something tearing through her from inside. What happened to her?
But 30 minutes earlier, Linda stood in front of her bedroom mirror, adjusting her dress quietly, while Dennis sat on the bed watching her with concern.
“I still don’t think you should go,” he said gently. Linda forced a smile. It’s just a baby shower, Denise.
It’s not just a baby shower, and you know it. She kept adjusting her earrings without looking at him.
Dennis stood up and walked closer. Babe, every single one of those women is pregnant.
Linda paused briefly. The word stung more than she expected, but she smiled again anyway.
And so Dennis, I know how these things affect you after you come back home.
Linda finally turned towards him. What do you want me to do? Hide inside the house forever because I don’t have a child?
That’s not what I mean. Then what do you mean? Dennis went silent. Linda softened immediately after seeing the concern on his face.
She walked towards him slowly and held his hands. Listen to me, she said quietly.
Maybe celebrating other women we will attract my own blessing too. Dennis looked at her sadly.
For 6 years of marriage, he had watched his wife cry silently almost every night.
He had watched her endure endless hospital test, hormonal drugs, church prayers, painful comments from relatives, and now fibroid.
That diagnosis alone had shattered the little hope she still carried. At first, the doctor said the fibroid was small.
Months later, it became bigger. Different medications did nothing. Her lower abdomen occasionally hurt. But after years of disappointment, Linda had stopped expecting good news from anything connected to pregnancy.
Please don’t let anybody ruin your peace today. Denny said softly. Linda smiled weakly. I’ll be fine.
The baby shower hall had been full of life and excitement when Linda arrived. Beautiful decorations covered every corner.
Pink and blue balloons floated across the ceiling. Music played softly. Women moved around laughing and taking pictures.
At the center of the hall stood the three expectant mothers, Nancy, Julia, and Sandra, glowing with happiness as guests surrounded them with congratulations.
The moment Nancy saw Linda enter, she rushed forward carefully with a baby bomb. Linda, she screamed excitedly before hugging her gently.
You came. Nancy held her hand tightly. I am so happy you are here. The other women greeted her too.
Though Linda noticed the subtle looks some of them exchanged after seeing her. The look people gave childless women without realizing it.
Pity mixed with silent judgment. Linda ignored it. Today was supposed to be a happy day.
The program soon began. Games were played. Pictures were taken. Guests laughed loudly during different activities.
For a moment, Linda genuinely forgot her pain and enjoyed herself. Then came the gender reveal.
Nancy was having a girl. Julia was having a boy. Sandra was having a boy.
The entire hall erupted with excitement and celebration. Linda clapped for all of them with a smile on her face.
After the celebration settled, Nancy took the microphone to appreciate everybody who came. “Thank you all so much for celebrating with us,” she said emotionally.
Guest applauded. Nancy smiled and continued speaking. “I also want to say a prayer for every woman here trusting God for the fruit of the womb.”
Immediately, some women shouted, “Amen.” Nancy continued, “May God wipe away every tear. Amen.
May God visit every waiting woman. Amen. And may every woman crying secretly because of childlessness receive a miracle.
Amen.” Linda lowered her head quietly, but before she could even whisper her own amen, she noticed Julia and Sandra exchanging glances beside her.
Then they laughed softly. Ding’s chest tightened immediately. She pretended not to notice, but she noticed everything.
The side glances, the hidden smiles, the mocking expressions. She understood instantly. They were talking about her.
Still, she remained quiet. The program eventually ended. The guests began eating, taking pictures, and chatting freely in groups.
Linda stepped aside briefly to answer a phone call from Dennis. How is it going?
He asked. It’s fine, she lied. You sure? Linda forced a smile even though he could not see her.
Yes. Dennis remained quiet for a moment. Call me if you need me. I will.
After the call ended, Linda started walking back towards the main hall when she suddenly heard voices nearby.
She recognized them immediately. Nancy, Julia, Sandra, and two other women. Linda slowed down unconsciously after hearing her name.
“Why did you even make that prayer point?” Julia asked with a scoff. Nancy sounded confused.
“What prayer point? The prayer point for waiting women?” A few women laughed softly. Julia continued carelessly.
“Who were you trying to make feel comfortable? Is it Linda? Nancy sighed. Julia, come on.
No, let’s be honest. Julia continued. A woman that lived such a reckless life in school should not blame God for our situation now.
Linda froze completely behind the wall. Her heartbeat increased instantly. She was changing boyfriends like clothes and sleeping around with all kinds of men.
Sandra added quietly. She probably damaged her womb long ago, Julia said bluntly. Then all those abortions.
The women shook their heads dramatically. Our God is not unjust, Julia continued. Whatever you do in life, wait for you in the future.
Nancy remained quiet. That silence hurt Linda more than the words. Tears gathered in her eyes instantly.
So nobody should blame God for whatever Linda is going through. Julia finished coldly. The women murmured in agreement.
Linda felt her legs weakening. For a few seconds, she almost turned back quietly, but something inside her refused.
No. They needed to know she had heard every single word. Linda stepped forward slowly.
The women turned immediately. Shock covered their faces. Nobody expected her to be standing there.
Linda looked at all of them one after the other. Her eyes were already filled with tears.
So this is what you truly think about me. Nobody spoke. The silence was suffocating.
Linda laughed painfully. Wow. Nancy stood up immediately. Linda, listen. No. Linda interrupted sharply. Her voice trembled badly.
How dare you people say such horrible things about me? Julia folded her arms defensively.
You really said the truth? Linda looked at her in disbelief. The truth? Yes. Julia replied boldly.
Everybody knew the kind of life you lived in school. Linda shook her head slowly like somebody struggling to process betrayal.
I called you my friends. Nancy spoke softly. We didn’t mean it that way, Linda.
Linda laughed bitterly. But you said it anyway. Silence fell again. Linda looked at all of them with deep disappointment.
Then she nodded slowly. Congratulations to all of you. Then she turned and walked away before anybody could stop her.
The moment she got outside the hall, the tears she had been holding back finally poured freely.
She walked towards a quiet corner near the parking lot and sat down weakly. God,” she cried brokenly.
“Why? They’re mocking me.” She covered her face with both hands and cried harder. Why are you watching all this happen to me?
Her breathing became shaky. Instead of blessing me with a child, you blessed me with fibroid.
She pressed her stomach painfully. “What am I supposed to do with fibroid?” Suddenly, a sharp pain tore through her abdomen violently.
Linda gasped loudly. Her eyes widened. The pain heat again. Stronger, more dangerous. She screamed.
Her scream echoed across the parking lot. People turned immediately. Some guests dropped their drinks and rushed towards her in panic.
Nancy was the first to reach her. Linda. Linda could barely breathe anymore. She held her stomach tightly as another violent pain.
Sweat covered her face completely. It’s hot. She’d cried helplessly. N’s heart pounded with fear.
What’s happening to her? Linda suddenly bent forward and screamed again. The sound terrified everybody around her.
Take her to the hospital now. One woman yelled. Within minutes, two men carefully helped Linda into a car while Nancy entered beside her.
Julia and Sandra stood frozen near the entrance of the hall. The mockery from earlier suddenly didn’t matter anymore.
Fear replaced everything. As the car sped through traffic, Linda cried uncontrollably in pain. Nancy held her hand tightly.
“It’s okay. It’s okay.” But even she sounded on show. The pain kept coming in waves, each one stronger than the last.
Linda felt like her body was tearing apart from inside. By the time they arrived at the hospital, the nurses hurried Linda inside while doctors began asking questions rapidly.
When did the pain start? Linda could barely answer. Another sharp pain hit her.
She screamed loudly. The doctor paused immediately, then looked carefully at her. Take her to the examination room now.
Within minutes, nurses surrounded Linda while the doctor checked her urgently. Then suddenly the doctor’s expression changed.
This woman is in active labor. Silence. Nancy stared at him like she had wrong.
What? She’s fully dilated. The doctor said quickly. The baby is coming. Linda’s eyes widened in terror.
No, she whispered quickly. That’s impossible. But before anybody could explain further, another contraction hit her violently.
Linda screamed again. “Prepare the labor room now,” the doctor ordered. Everything became chaotic instantly.
Nurses rushed around quickly. Machines moved. Glow snapped. Voices filled the room. Linda shook her head repeatedly in confusion and fear.
“No, no, doctor. I have fibroid. I’m not pregnant.” The female doctor held her gently.
“Madame, listen to me carefully. You are pregnant. Linda burst into tears immediately. I can’t be pregnant.
You are. Linda cried harder in confusion. For years, she had prayed for this moment, begged for this moment, and now they were telling her she was about to give birth.
He didn’t feel real. Meanwhile, Nancy quickly stepped outside and called Dennis with trembly hands.
Hello, Nancy. Dennis answered immediately. What’s going on? Why are you calling me? Nancy swallowed nervously.
You need to come to the hospital right now. Dennis stood up immediately from where he sat.
What happened? Where’s my wife? It’s It’s Linda. Fear gripped him instantly. What happened to my wife?
Nancy struggled to find the words. Then finally, she she’s pregnant. The doctor said she’s in active labor.
Please just just come quickly. The call ended for a few seconds. Dennis genuinely thought he had wrong.
He froze for almost 10 seconds. Then he grabbed his car keys immediately and rushed out.
Back inside the labor room, Linda was exhausted already. Tears streamed endlessly down her face.
The contractions were unbearable. The doctor encouraged her calmly. You are doing well. Push. Linda screamed loudly.
Another push, another cry, another contraction. Then finally, the sound filled the room. A baby’s cry.
The room went silent for one beautiful second before the nurses smiled instantly. It’s a boy.
Linda collapsed weakly against the bed, crying uncontrollably. The nurse carefully placed the baby near her.
The moment Linda saw him, everything broke inside her emotionally after years of waiting, years of shame, mockery.
God had given her a child she never even knew she was carrying. Linda touched the baby carefully like she was afraid he would disappear.
Oh God, you turned my fibroid into a fine boy. She sobbed, giving glory to God.
Minutes later, Dennis rushed into the hospital, breathing heavily. Where’s my wife? Where’s my wife?
Nancy stood up immediately. She’s okay. Dennis looked terrified. What happened? Where is she? Nancy pointed towards the ward quietly.
Dennis hurried inside. The moment he entered and saw Linda lying on the hospital bed holding a baby, he stopped completely.
His eyes widened slowly. Linda looked up at him through tears. Neither of them spoke.
Dennis walked closer slowly like somebody afraid to wake up from a dream. Danny looked down at the baby boy, sleeping peacefully in Linda’s arms.
Tears fueled his eyes instantly. “This is our son,” he whispered emotionally. Linda nodded while crying.
Dennis covered his mouth with his hands as tears rolled freely down his face. He sat beside Linda and touched the baby gently.
Neither of them could stop crying. Outside the hospital, the news had already started spreading.
The same women who mocked Linda earlier sat speechless after hearing what happened. Julia stared blankly at her phone.
She gave birth. She whispered weakly. Nobody answered. Nobody even knew what to say anymore.
7 days later, Dennis intentionally turned the naming ceremony to a massive celebration. People came from everywhere, friends, family, neighbors, church members.
Even the same women who had mocked Linda received personal invitations. The compound was filled with music, food, and excitement.
At the center of it all sat Linda glowing softly while carrying a baby boy proudly in her arms.
Then finally the pastor prayed for the child and announced his name Olua which means God has surprised me.
The crowd shouted joyfully. Then he smiled emotionally as applause filled the atmosphere. Then unexpectedly he collected the microphone.
He stood quietly with the microphone in his hand while the celebration slowly became silent.
People looked at him curiously. Some smiled. Others expected him to simply thank the guest and continue the party.
But his expression was different, emotional, heavy. He looked towards his wife briefly before speaking.
I want to appreciate everybody who came here today to celebrate with my family. The guest nodded quietly.
Then he smiled faintly. But before we continue this celebration, there is something I need to say.
The atmosphere became more attentive. Dennis inhaled deeply. For years, my wife and I waited for this child.
And during those years, people said many terrible things about her. The smile on Julia’s face disappeared instantly.
Dennis continued, “They said my wife was barren because she destroyed her womb through abortions.”
Silence filled the venue. They said she was paying for the reckless life she lived in the university.
Linda lowered her eyes quietly. Dennis noted slowly. Yes, my wife was very popular in school.
She dressed boldly. She loved attention. She moved with different groups. And yes, she changed boyfriends often.
Mama spread softly across the gathering. Dennis looked directly at the guest, so naturally everybody concluded she was sleeping around.
Julia slowly lowered her head. Dennis continued. I also believed the same thing at first.
That statement surprised many people. Dennis smiled faintly. The first time I approached my wife in school, I had no serious intentions towards her.
I only wanted to sleep with her and move on like many others. But one day when I asked her to follow me to a hotel, Dennis paused briefly.
She refused. The crowd became more attentive. She looked me straight in the eyes and said she would only sleep with a man she married.
That day changed my entire perception of her. Dennis looked at Linda proudly. What people didn’t know was that most of the men Linda dated left because she refused to sleep with them.
A few shocked mummers spread across the gathering. She wanted to fit in. She loved attention.
She enjoyed popularity. But she made a personal decision long ago that she would never give her body to any man outside marriage.
Linda wiped her eyes quietly. His voice became heavier emotionally. When we got married 2 years after graduation, I was shocked to discover my wife was still a virgin.
The entire gathering erupted in stone whispers. Nancy covered her mouth instantly. Julia looked completely frozen.
Even Sandra stared in disbelief. Dennis nodded slowly. Yes. He looked directly at the guest.
The same woman people called spoiled, damaged, used, and worthless. He paused. Had preserved herself more than many people judging her.
Silence swallowed the venue completely. Dennis continued speaking. For years, people mocked me for marrying her.
They called me a fool. They told me I married leftovers. Some people shifted uncomfortably.
Linda’s eyes filled with tears again. But I kept quiet because I knew the truth about my wife.
Dennis looked towards the baby, sleeping peacefully in Linda’s arms. And when we couldn’t have children, people became even worse.
His jaw tightened slightly. They said she had aborted all the children God planned for her.
A few women lowered their heads in shame. But through all the mockery, through all the pain, through all the hospital visits and tears, Dennis smiled emotionally.
My wife remained strong. He turned towards Linda fully. And today, God has finally spoken for her.
The atmosphere became deeply emotional. Some women were already crying quietly. Julia could no longer lift her face.
Nancy wiped tears from her eyes repeatedly. Dennis walked slowly towards Linda and touched their baby gently.
“This child is more than a miracle to us.” His voice broke. He is living proof that God can stay silent for years and still answer in a way nobody expects.
Nobody moved. Nobody spoke. The weight of his words sat heavily on everybody present. Then unexpectedly, Julia stood up slowly.
Tears filled her eyes already. Everybody watched her nervously as she walked towards Linda. Her lips trembled.
Linda, I am sorry. She whispered brokenly. Linda said nothing. Julia wiped her tears quickly.
I judged you wrongly. I spoke about you like I knew your life, but I didn’t know anything.
Her voice cracked badly. I am sorry for every painful thing I said. The atmosphere became even more emotional.
Nancy stood up to then Sandra. One after another, they approached Linda with tears and shame written across their faces.
Nancy held Linda’s hand carefully. Linda, please forgive us. Linda looked at all of them silently for a few seconds.
Then finally, she smiled softly through tears. I already forgave you. The women broke down crying completely.
That single response humbled them even more. Later that night, after all the guests had gone home and the noise had faded away, Linda sat quietly on the bed carrying her baby in her arms.
She stared at her son emotionally while he slept peacefully against her chest. Then she whispered softly, “You came when everybody thought my story was over.”
Tears slipped gently down her cheeks. Dennis walked closer and sat beside her quietly.
He wrapped one arm around her shoulders and looked at their baby. Then he smiled softly.
“No,” he said. “He came when God decided to answer everybody at once.” Linda rested her head gently on his shoulder as they boosted at their miracle in silence.
And for the first time in many years, her heart finally felt whole again. I hope you enjoyed today’s story.
