Heading into the main event of UFC 328, the Chechen middleweight was not only world champion, but had hardly lost a round much less a fight in his career. He was a massive favorite, and reportedly got the better of Strickland when the pair sparred years ago.

However, something happened in the second round that affected him so much that the fight became a much more even affair. And Strickland was able to make him look human and ultimately relieve him of his belt by split decision after five hard rounds.

Khamzat Chimaev sends Sean Strickland message after UFC 328

Despite the fight having one of the most bitter and ugly build-ups in modern memory, Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev were sporting from before even the first bell tonight. The pair touched gloves twice while facing off, and then a third time after the bout had begun.

Strickland has since admitted that he perhaps over exaggerated his hatred for Chimaev in his head, leading to a bitter war of words. And the pair seemed friendly as the result was read, with the Chechen opting not to complain about the scores.

Now, Chimaev has taken to social media to share a brief message for his opponent, writing on X to his 917,500+ followers: “@SStricklandMMA see you soon again,” along with a ‘salute’ emoji.

However, it remains to be seen how likely a rematch between the pair is, with Dana White noting that Chimaev is keen to make the move up to light-heavyweight after a controversial weigh-in on Friday morning.
